My yearly quick dayhike of Mount Whitney. Fit in between intense obligations, quick dinner at Ebisu (after work) Friday to count for my birthday dinner, obligations all day, drove up to the hot springs Saturday evening, puttered around the springs fixing stuff Sunday morning, and drove down to Lone Pine (bought pizza for dinner). After the hike, drove back to go to work the next day.Map(s) of perambulations below.
Due to the unsettled weather, I started earlier than my usual "get up whenever and go", got nice sunrise colors as I started up the trail. Good steady pace to the summit (4:35), with a snack break at Trail Pass. Spent about an hour on top, handed out some leftover pizza and whiskey to JMT hikers. Weather remained unsettled but inactive. Made good time coming down (3:45).
21.4 miles of generally good trail, with approximately 6500 feet of ascent. Bunnyhike Rating: (21.4 x 2.6) = 56 + 65 + 0cc = 120.
Showers the previous day at the trailhead, unsettled weather in the morning, with low clouds below the Whitney ridge. Mostly clear to the west. Temperatures mostly pleasant and normal.
