This is the easy San Francisco island hill...Alcatraz requires money and schedule and possibly reservations, the 108 is much easier to deal with. A nice rainy day hike, under my big rainbow striped umbrella. Yerba Buena Island has a notable dearth of sidewalks, and the stairway to near the top of Tower Hill is long abandoned and overgrown. The views from Treasure Island Cove of the East Span Bay Bridge construction were interesting. Lunch, back on the mainland, was Clam Chowder in a Boudin bread bowl...touristy and hokey or not, very yummy and nice on a dreary day!
This hike was the ninth of a series of hikes in San Francisco to address a surprising absence in my local hiking...the total absence of the Hills of San Francisco from my peak list (at least, until the last few months). San Francisco Peaks website. I summited Mount Davidson (927') on February 7th, 2005. The tallest hill I haven't topped yet is #14 - McLaren Ridge (533') in the southeastern corner of the City. Tower Hill, at 338 feet was today's catch.
About 3.5 miles, 700+ feet of ascent.
The weather was rainy and cool.
