Vicente Flat Trail Work Trip, July 24-25, 2005

Coming up on July 24-25 (Sunday and Monday) will be the fourth of a series of summer trips run by by the VWA Trail Crew to clear downed trees from the Vicente Flat trail. The plan is to spend the cooler morning hours of each day working on the exposed upper part of the trail, with the later hours spent working on the shaded lower part. I would therefore like to meet at the Vicente Flat trailhead on Cone Peak Road on Sunday, July 24, at 7:30 am. The work sites to be tackled are numbers 5, 6, 7, 13, 14, and 15 on the survey page at http://www.sfpeaks.net/trailwork/vicente05/0516-survey/index_survey.html, and if we have enough people and time, there is some clean-up work of the log-moving variety to be done at site number 12.

As with all VWA Trail Crew trips, everyone needs to come self-sufficient as they would for a backpacking trip, including all of their own food and shelter. People may, of course, bring some hors d'ouvres or drinks to share at then end of the work day if they wish. Long sleeves, long pants, tough gloves, and eye protection are a must. Hard hats are required for this type of work and will be provided for those who don't have their own if requested in advance. We didn't have very many bugs last time, but they could be a problem, so some spray-on Deet or a head net might be a good idea if you are averse to bugs. Also, be aware that the poison oak is very lush this year, so some TecNu and a change of clothes would be a good idea if you are sensitive.
